Nikki Kidman Has Great Taste

...in directors. And she's signed on with another doozie, Tomas Alfredson, the genius behind the amazing Swedish vampire film, Let the Right One In.

The two will be working together on The Danish Girl, the story of the first official recipient of a sex change operation. Charlize Theron was supposed to play the wife of Kidman's character, but for reasons unknown has left the project. Certainly it wasn't for a lack of talent involved.

Alfredson showed some major finesse with controversial subject matter and romanticism last year, and Kidman won an Oscar when she played a sexually confused period figure in The Hours. The stars have aligned for this project, it would seem.

The Danish Girl is currently scheduled for release in 2010, along with another Kidman vehicle, Rabbit Hole, which is based on an award-winning play. Sounds like next year could be a big kudos year for Kidman and a chance for some mainstream attention for Tomas Alfredson. Great news.
