Best Actress Contenders

I wouldn't be surprised to see Penelope and Hillary in the run again, since they are Academy's pets for some strange reasons, but it would be a win of mediocre actresses. I vote for Meryl here (since I've heard that YOUNG VICTORIA doesn't really give a lot of space for Emily Blunt to shine).

Should be a dynamite category.

There are lots of exciting names this year, but I have to say, even this early on, that I'm rooting for Mulligan. There's just something winning about her.

I'm all for Meryl getting a nomination but I have a really, really hard time getting behind even extraordinary performances in only mediocre movies. It's like I don't want the makers to have the satisfaction or something...

Michelle, Carey, Marion, Abby, Helen in that order and Gabourdey or Saiorse as alternates. But if Mother & Child gets picked up Annette would be my fave. But who knows how it will turn out.

The Young Victoria was a fine, but I don't see a nod in the making.

Can Mulligan sustain the buzz to the win? Or will the tone of the award season change?

I just wish they'll stop this nonsense with Marion as Leading!

in order of chances of getting the nom: Mulligan and Sibide - almost locks. Meryl. Swank. Mirren.
but I don't think any of the last 3 are safe, not even Meryl.

Michelle must be the runner-up. I was just thinking about it yesterday. She is sure to get some number 1 on the ballot, because it's a comeback, they love comebacks and she must have lots of friends in the industry...

Yeah, I think Day-Lewis must be the only lead in Nine, unless they SIGNIFICANTLY beefed up Luisa's role for the film.

I'd say Sidibe is a lock just because they have to recognize that this is an actress who won't have a lot of opportunities in the future. It's a shame, but there simply aren't many roles for a woman her size. It'd be a shame if someone so talented got one chance to really shine and was passed over.
